  Prologue

The Vampire Uprising was a moment in history that was envisioned by the Vampire Queen of the Underworld Illea and the first family of Vampires, the Hardys. The Uprising was set on a day when the moon was full and was red like crimson.” The very first Uprising was 50 years prior where the command was given that all wolves be killed. The wolves were human shifters and not born as wolves they were turned.

The time had come once again. This time it was against the Fae Community. Dark as well as light fae. The light fae were fairies who typically had wings and were acquainted to goodness as well as all things light. The dark fae were the witches, wolves, and shifters which were acquainted with the dark and evil doing.

In times past dark and light fae were forbidden to be aligned or mixed. This all changed when the Fae Council was formed to protect and align with all fae. Illea wanted all the fae to be killed as it was learned that there was a Wynarian that was prophesied who would wipe out the entire bloodline of the first family and vampires alike.

She gave the mandate that every Wynarian be killed before reaching their full destiny. The Hardys sided with Illea in agreement that there would be another uprising knowing that the fae community would be rendered powerless by the full crimson moon. But would they find the next one who was said to be the true Wynarian and eliminate her before she stepped into her destiny.

  Memories

My sister Nubia and I were barely preteen. I was eleven and Nubia was ten at the time, but I vividly remember that dark day. An odd sort of eclipse cloaked the sky. The moon was full and crimson red. It was a bad day for both sides of Fae. Neither dark nor light fae could access their powers. Fae typically drew power from either the sun or the moon. But at the time there was neither.

Our parents were light as well as dark fae. Dad was a Warlock and Mom was a Fairy. It had been forbidden for them to be together, but after my sister and I were born, the Fae Council overlooked their union, since the rules of alignment between all fae had been changed.

The change in alignment came when our dad became the chairman of the Fae Council and overturned the rules concerning Fae alignment. This meant that it was no longer forbidden for light and dark fae to be aligned with each other.

There was mass panic when the Vampires stepped through the main gate of our Fae Community. Parents ran to and fro trying to get their children to safety. More Vampires were coming, you could sense it as the air crackled with an electrical charge that could be felt for miles.

Dad told our Nana to get Nubia and I to safety. “Mom took the girls to the place of safety. You know where.” Our dad yelled. My sister and I were confused and frightened, but we also didn't want to leave our parents.

“Dad no, what's going on?” Nubia cried as Nana grabbed our hands. Dad shook his head looking at us with sadness in his eyes. His expression told us that he knew this could possibly be the last time he'd see us.

We both turned and glanced back at our dad as Nana prepared to take us away. We saw our dad talking in a low tone to our mom. He gave her two daggers as he pulled out his Shiitake long silver tipped Sword. He stared into her eyes holding her in his intense stare as he embraced her like it would be the last time he'd be able to hold her in his arms.

Mom pulled out of his embrace looking at him with wild eyes protesting. “Enrique, we haven't ever wielded weapons, We've only ever used magic.” Dad looked at her in understanding, but firmly said “Emerilyn, we have to fight to keep our daughters and our mother safe. We have done everything that was asked of us to keep Jadayah hidden and safe. Jadayah is our oldest daughter and now the Vampires know of her existence and seek to kill her.” His voice was barely above a whisper as he spoke to mom.

“Mother will be all they have and according to what's been prophesied by the night goddess Nyxiana one of ours is destined to be the one.” Enrique whispered as he grasped mom's hand leading her out to the porch when he saw that Nana had us safely in tow and out the backdoor of our small cottage. We heard the screams as they started as the tinkling sound of dad drawing his Shitake blade rang out.

“Destined one?” Kept repeating in my mind as I consoled my younger sister trying to keep her from screaming for our parents. Nana scrambled to get us safely, hiding us in a rare moon flower that was nested in a huge oak tree behind our cottage. Nubia and I weren't fairies but, being small in stature we fit perfectly inside the large moon flower that grew by the essence of the moon every year inside the huge oak.

“Stay in here and don't come out until I come fetch you and tell you it's safe. The Vampire uprising is here.” Nana whispered. “Nana, where will you be? You'll be killed.” Jade protested. “I will be right here, my little bird.” Nana promised with a slight smile as she moved a salt and pepper loc over her shoulder. Her Gray eyes glinting in the light gave us hope.

Nubia and I huddled close and held hands as we listened to the screams of mothers, fathers and children being slaughtered by the vampires as the fight grew more intense. Our little Fae Community on the outskirts of Aureleadon was a picture of mass chaos.

Out of the petals we could vaguely see the gruesome scenes of hearts being snatched out and heads being snapped off of shoulders. Nubia let out a small cry. I put my hand over her mouth to shush her. I breathed slowly fearing for our parents and our Nana.

“Goddess of Night protect me and my granddaughters. I am all they have now.” we heard our Nana say as she looked towards the cottage seeing her son in law and daughter, laying in a pool of blood. A shimmering light appeared over us and Nana. Nana breathed a sigh as she backed into a shadow behind the moon flower that we were nestled in.

We heard a light shuffling near the moon flower. Nubia told me to stay quiet as she moved a petal and peeked out. A girl who appeared to be about 13 or 14 backed toward the flower. She had short springy curls and amber eyes. She wore black leggings and a tank top and all black Nike sneakers.

She looked frightened and seemed to be a young vampire fledgling who had not long been turned. She tightly whispered “No!” and backed up more when a vampire commanded her to kill a group of children. When she was close to the tree where we were, she noticed Nubia peeking out the moon flower. She shook her head and put a finger to her lips for us to not reveal where she was hiding.

She locked eyes with Nubia who is a seer in the family. Nubia was the one who was always practicing on perfecting her magic as a shadow witch, while I focused on my studies and writing. I had no idea she was able to talk to others telepathically, but here she is. She was able to telepat
hically tell the girl to hide in the cave that was on the right side of us. The girl nodded and ran quickly to the cave hiding in the shadows.

After what seemed like an eternity, the screams died out and all was silent. Just too quiet. Nana came to fetch us, giving us quite a fright. We both jumped as we heard her approach then relaxed once we saw our Nana. “It's over.” Nana said somberly.

We knew the inevitable without her saying it. Our parents had been killed. I motioned for the girl to come out of the cave. “You can come with us.” I told her. “My name is Sha'Deyja, but I go by just Deyja.” she said softly. We smiled at her and told her our names. We didn't know at the time that Deyja would become our best friend as well as our sister.

Nyxiana the Night Goddess suddenly appeared before us gracing us with her presence. Her amethyst eyes twinkled as her black dress flowed behind her. She was a picture of power and beauty as her long jet-black tresses framed her face.

“Blessed Be.” she said, greeting us. We bowed then looked at Nana wondering why the Night Goddess had suddenly appeared before us. Sensing our thoughts, she spoke again. “I'm here to give you both a choice. You may choose to be Light Fae like your mother, or you can choose to be Dark Fae as your father.” Nyxiana told us.

Nubia and I looked at each other. I nodded at Nubia as I grabbed her hand. Nubia spoke for us both. “We would like to be Dark Fae as our father. Our mother was a light fae and a fairy. We don't have wings as our mother did. We mostly identify with dark fae like our father.” Nubia told her.

Nyxiana clapped her hands together. “So mote it be my daughters of the dark.” She said, and she blessed us both with a kiss on our forehead. “You are the last of the Shadow Witches of this era. The others were killed. Two will come to be your guardian seers.” Nyxiana explained.

“Shadow witch? My mom was a shadow witch too.” Deyja exclaimed. “Yes, dear one you are one too. Fate leads you to Jade and Nubia. You will not only be their friend and sister, but because you are a vampire you will be their protector as well.” Nyxiana blessed her with a kiss just as she had given me and Nubia.

“Sha'Deyja, do you have a family?” Nana asked her. “No ma'am, my mom died when she had me from what I was told. My dad was killed, and I was raised by my cousins.” Deyja told her. Nana looked at the three of us as she spoke with sadness lacing her tone. “We can go home now. We will be going to my house in lower Aureleadon. There is plenty of space for all of us.”

She turned and looked at Deyja. “I am Saiaja Night, but you can call me Nana, Deyja. I want to officially welcome you as a member of the Night family.” Our Nana told her as she smiled warmly as she hugged her tightly.

  Jade

“After choosing to be Dark Fae like my father, I knew there was something different about me. I knew I was a Raven shifter, but deep in my mind my intuition kept telling me that I was something more than just a Dark Fae Shifter, I didn't know what it was yet. My mom was a Fairy and had Fairy wings, but I had Raven wings. My sister Nubia didn't have wings; she was a Shadow Witch like my Nana. I never questioned it even though it seemed odd. Something was telling me that an unexpected event was destined to happen. Exactly what had not been revealed and I just wasn't ready to find out what it was.”

  Chapter

  One

It had been ten years since the Uprising during which the Vampires had killed most of the Fae, including Jade and Nubia's parents. It was during that horrible event that they met Deyja, a young fledgling vampire that had been turned against her will.

Jade, Nubia and Deyja had reached the age of 19 and lived together in a three-bedroom apartment on the East side, near the river. Nana lived two apartments away and one level lower in the 16-story building.

“Jade, will you please hurry up and choose something to wear.” an obviously annoyed Nubia yelled at her sister. Jade would not be rushed and stepped in front of the full-length mirror and yelled back. “Nubia, come on. How often do I really go out anywhere?”

“You are not wearing that are you?” Nubia gasped. “What's wrong with-it sis?” Jade asked. She had chosen a grunge t-shirt with a black pair of baggy cargo jeans with her black forces.

She ran her fingers through her short locs looking at her caramel complexion and gray eyes in the mirror. “I need to take out these locs and get a relaxer.” She thought to herself. Nubia stood up rolling her eyes. “Not tonight sis, Deyja is taking us to lower Aureleadon tonight to some club.” Nubia said.

Jade sighed as she stood there in silently front of her sister. Nubia waved her hands over Jade changing the t-shirt to a crimson low-cut top, and the cargo to a pair of skinny jeans. Jade gasped as she noticed the magical glamor that Nubia had just performed. “Wow, you're getting really good with your magic now Nubia.” Jade said, glancing at her sister. Nubia smiled. “I suppose it's always been there, I just had to practice perfecting it.”

Jade looked at herself and gasped. “Sis, you know this isn't me.” Jade continued to complain as Nubia attacked her hair, teasing her locs with a splash of bougie blue color wax that she'd purchased online. “And I agree with you about taking out your locs and getting a relaxer, sis.” Nubia said, responding to Jade's thoughts. Jade gasped. “Nubia, you heard my thoughts?” Nubia looked at her thoughtfully. “Yeah, I suppose I did just respond to your thoughts about what you want to do with your hair. Nubia stood back assessing Jade's attire when she noticed the look on her sister's face. “And furthermore, I didn't change your shoes, Jade. I coulda easily had you a pair of stilettos waiting.” Nubia teased her older sister. “And besides, you may meet somebody tonight.” “Yeah right.” Jade said playfully pushing her sister.

Jade then looked at her sister assessing her outfit. Black Chinos with a red tank top and black suit jacket. She chose to wear the black stilettos red bottoms. She had taken her braids out and wore a cute twist out. The Auburn color complimented her brown skin and hazel eyes.

“I hope y'all ready to go. I've been ready for 30 minutes.” Deyja yelled. “Yes, we are ready Deyja damn. I was helping Jade.” Nubia said. Deyja rolled her eyes as she looked at what she was wearing compared to her best friend's attire. “I can fix that real quick.” Nubia said as she flicked her wrist.

Deyja's clothes changed to black leather pants, a red t peeking underneath a leather jacket and a pair of calf length leather boots. Deyja smiled, breathing a sigh of relief. “Can't have my besties looking better than me.” Deyja said laughing.

“We will take my red Kia Sorento.” Deyja announced. “Wait.” Jade whispered. Jade and Nubia stopped in their tracks as they stepped out of their apartment and walked a few steps. They stood in front of their Nana's brownstone flat. Jade looked at Nubia. “Yes, sis I feel that too.” Nubia said.

Deyja walked in between both of them looking at Nana's house. Her breath caught in her chest as she noticed the feeling of death closing in on them. Jade's eyes drifted slowly to the front door.

The Archway seemed so far away. Her breath caught in her chest as she reached the porch and slowly turned the doorknob. She walked into the apartment and stopped in front of her Nana. She sat in her chaise lounge chair and appeared as if she was just sleeping. “Nana, please wake up. Please don't leave me.” Jade cried silently as she looked at her Nana somberly just as she took her last and final breath.

Jade turned around with tears in her eyes. Nubia and Deyja stepped over to embrace her. “Nana is gone. She must have died in her sleep.” Jade said as she cried a deep soulful cry. “All we have is each other now.” Nubia said quietly.

“I can't stay here; we need to go. I can't, I can't breathe.” Jade said running outside and looking up at the night sky breathing hard as if she might have a panic attack. Nubia and Deyja followed her not knowing where her mindset was. Jade swiped her tears then looked at Nubia and Deyja.

“I don't know if I want us to live here in lower Aureleadon any longer. I can't bear the memories.” Jade said as Nubia and Jade grabbe
d her hand. Jade looked up at the sky as she whispered, “A destined event.” She then hung her head in sorrow for her Nana.

“Nana was the destined event that had to happen. Why? Why did she have to die?” Jade said, looking at her sister and Deyja as they walked to Deyja's car. No words passed between them. Nothing that was said would lessen the effect of Nana passing. All they had now were memories.

“Come on Jade, we are still taking you out. You don't need to be here alone tonight.” Nubia said, putting her arm around her sister. Deyja looked at Jade as she nodded in agreement before they headed to Deyja's car.

Jade checked her face in the rear-view mirror as they climbed into Deyja's Red Kia Sorento. “Nubia, are my eyes puffy?” Jade asked, frowning at her reflection. Nubia looked at her sister. “Not too bad, but I can give you temporary glamor. Close your eyes.” She told her. Nubia waved her hand over Jade's face. “Open your eyes sis. I'm done.”

Jade opened her eyes slowly. She smiled as she saw the light onyx shadow on her lids. “Sis, I'm so impressed. Your magic is amazing.” Jade said as she looked in the mirror again.

Club Crimson wasn't too crowded to be a Friday. A few werewolves bristled at first when the three of them walked by. “Yo, Tony, are those two witches that Deyja rolling in with?” One of the Werewolves asked. Tony shrugged then seemed to relax his previous stance when he looked up and recognized his buddy Deyja. “Hey Deyja, I see you brought some friends tonight.” Tony the bouncer said as he smiled at Nubia and Jade. “Yeah. These two are my best friends, Tony. Nubia and Jade meet my homie, Tony.” Deyja said, making the introduction as Tony stepped aside letting them into the club.
